Pantelleria Island: The Black Pearl of the Mediterranean
It overlooks the village of Scauri from above. From its terrace, the view stretches from the garden to the orchard, from the village to the sea, all the way to the African coast on the horizon.
In an atmosphere of complete privacy, we enter the property via a narrow dirt road, and once inside, the sounds and scents of Sicilian nature blend together as if in a dream.
Leaving Africa behind, you can enter the dammuso through one of the three glass doors on the terrace.
Here, the various rooms of the house are all connected internally.
The first door leads to the living room with a kitchenette and the first bathroom. This bathroom features a large bathtub with a window above it that, like a painting, frames the view of the sea.
From the living room, we enter the first area of the sleeping quarters, which includes the living room and the “camerino” (a windowless bedroom perfect for a daily nap); from here, you can return to the terrace through the second glass door. Continuing on, we reach the second sleeping area. Here, the sleeping area is even larger. In fact, there is a large living room overlooking a spacious double bedroom and the second bathroom, which has a shower.
From here, too, you can access the terrace without disturbing the guests in the previous room. Furthermore, stepping out onto the terrace and immediately to the left, you’ll find a well-equipped outdoor kitchenette where you can prepare delicious breakfasts to enjoy in the shade of the pine trees. This area is perhaps the most sheltered and ideal for relaxation. Hammocks and lounge chairs furnish all the outdoor areas, but I must confess, this part is my favorite.
The dammuso also includes other rooms that haven’t been restored yet; these storage areas and stables could be converted into a second living space or a guesthouse.
The terrace is very large, and from here you can enjoy splendid sunsets over the sea; on the clearest days, you can even see the coast of nearby Tunisia.
Surrounding the dammuso is a large plot of land planted with flowers and various types of fruit trees.
The nearest access to the sea is at Scauri, with its picturesque little harbor, where you can rent boats and inflatable boats. The village of Scauri also offers bars, restaurants, a tobacco shop/newsstand, a fish market, a pharmacy, and a supermarket.
