In the town center, close to all amenities yet on the edge of the woods, you’ll find this splendid 50-square-meter cottage (a former convent dating back to 1525) on Via Castagnoli, plus a 700-square-meter landscaped garden on Via degli Addobbi. The cottage, in excellent condition, consists of a kitchen/living room with a sofa bed, a master bedroom, and a bathroom. There is a cloister/cellar and a delightful garden featuring a pergola, a vineyard, and fruit trees. There is no gas heating (though a gas line is available outside near the front door); only a chimney is present. There is an attic that could be utilized following renovation.The roof was redone in 2009 (documented). Scansano, nestled in the Grosseto Maremma, is situated on a mountain ridge that forms the watershed between the Ombrone and Albegna rivers. Since ancient times, it has been considered a healthy resort town, to the point that under Leopold II, the offices of the Municipality of Grosseto—the provincial capital of the Maremma—would relocate there during the summer for the so-called “estatura” so that employees and their families could escape the risks of malaria.
