It is believed that Schiara owes its name to the fact that it is the first village to be touched by the morning sun—and also the first to be plunged into darkness in the evening. Schiara is the largest village on the Costa di Tramonti—or perhaps it would be more accurate to say the least small one. From the little church of San Antonio, the vertical layout of this village—literally clinging to the mountainside—is clearly visible. These are the homes of the fishermen and farmers who once inhabited these lands; today, most are used as vacation homes or as bases for tending the vineyards.
It’s a place out of this world—and not just in a metaphorical sense. Here, time seems to have stood still, but this is by no means a negative feeling; on the contrary, the peace and tranquility this place exudes are hard to describe.
