Marina di Grosseto is a charming hamlet of Grosseto and one of the most important tourist destinations in the Tuscan Maremma. The town’s development began toward the end of the 18th century, and it became a major seaside resort by the end of the 19th century, when it was frequented in the summer by residents of nearby Grosseto seeking relief from the intense heat. Today, Marina di Grosseto boasts one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Tuscany, which has also been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag designation. The town is centered around its main street and features a beautiful promenade that runs along the sea. Its monuments are also particularly interesting: the Church of San Rocco, built in the 1950s by engineer Ernesto Ganelli—the building was constructed to replace the previous church dedicated to Santa Maria della Vittoria, which dated back to 1923— the frescoes by artists Arnaldo Mazzanti and Luciano Favret are particularly beautiful; the Fort of San Rocco, built by the Lorraines in the second half of the 18th century as a watchtower and logistical base during the land reclamation project designed by Leonardo Ximenes; and finally, the Forte delle Marze, also dating back to the Lorraine period and used as a watchtower and collection center for the rooms
